Gayle Mulberry of Hill Top Research to give presentation at the American Society for Microbiology

CINCINNATI, OHIO, March 2003 — Gayle Mulberry, Technical Director of the Hill Top Research Microbiology Division is presenting at a workshop at the 103rd General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology titled, "In Vitro and In Vivo Test Methods Used to Assess the Efficacy of Topical Antimicrobial Products,"on May 18th, 2003.

Mr. Mulberry has over 30 years of experience in evaluating antimicrobials including preservatives, disinfectants, sterilants and topical antimicrobials, such as surgical hand scrub formulations, pre-operative skin preps, health care personnel handwash preparations, and consumer hand and body wash products. He received an undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the Ohio State University and a Masters degree from the University of Cincinnati.

As a leader of the ASTM subcommittee E35.15 on antimicrobial test methods, he drafted the following methods which are included in the June 1994 OTC Proposed Monograph for Health Care Antiseptic Drug Products:

E1115 - Test Method for Evaluation of Surgical Hand Scrub Formulations,
E1173 - Test Method for Evaluation of Pre-Operative Skin Preparations, and
E1174 - Test Method for Evaluation of Health Care Personnel Handwash Formulations.

According to Mr. Mulberry, "This presentation will be valuable for those with an interest in the development of antimicrobial skin products. Attendees that know little about methodology will have a chance to learn, while those that are familiar with the methodology will have a chance to hear about the latest developments."
